Billy Kemper wins Van's HIC PRO

Friday, November 5, 2010 the HIC Pro at Sunset was ON in 10-14 foot (faces) waves. Wave conditions cleaned up slightly in the morning and the lineup shifted closer to the north point. The afternoon brought a higher tide, less waves, and more unpredictability.

After a full day of competition, 20 year old Billy Kemper from Paia, Maui won the HIC Pro, the $12,000 first prize, 2010 ASP Hawaii Regional Pro Title, and the wildcard spot in next week’s Vans Triple Crown of Surfing. This is Kemper’s biggest career win, who is best known for big wave riding at Jaws. Kemper dedicated his win to Andy Irons and his brother Eric Diaz, who passed away in 1998 and was one of Andy’s good friends.
