Flippy Hoffman Passes Away

Legendary big wave pioneer and surf industry originator Phillip “Flippy” Hoffman has passed away at the age of 81 due to unspecified pulmonary issues. One of the first surfers to ever tackle the monstrous waves of the North Shore, Flippy was also instrumental in the surf clothing industry as founder of Hoffman California Fabrics which supplied fabric for just about everyone in the early days of the industry.

For younger surfers, Flippy would be known as Christian and Nathan Fletcher’s grandpa. Our prayers and sympathy go out to the Fletcher and Hoffman clans at this difficult time.
